What are Backpackers?
Backpacking is a much laid back and unique form of travelling in the tourism industry. It traditionally used to done by young hippie type of travellers who would go to places where they would just travel very cheap, using public transport and hitch hiking.

In recent times in Swaziland, we regularly see tourists travelling on public transport or hiking whilst carrying huge bags at their back. These bags are called Backpacks. That is where the word backpackers came from because it is the person carrying this backpack that will probably be looking for the backpacker's accommodation. But over the years the whole concept has evolved influenced by competition coupled with the introduction of quality standards for accommodation establishments by various governments.

Unfortunately this whole concept does not seem to interest many Swazis despite seeing many backpacker signs in different places around the country. Well now it is the time get to learn about this very exciting way of travelling. Backpackers are a chain of accommodation places set up all over the world. They are easy to find and they offer the cheapest facilities to stay in. They are usually self catering hence you can bring your own food and prepare it yourself they have all the utensils that you need in the kitchen.

Sleeping arrangements
There are three types of accommodation set up for within the Backpackers facility.

Dormitories- this is a very cheap accommodation most ideally for sole travellers both men and women. In this type of accommodation, both men and women sleep on different beds in one room. But if you prefer you can always ask if they offer separate dorms of sleeping.

Double rooms - this is most ideally good for couples or friend travelling together and when they just want some privacy.

Camping is when you just sleep in the lawn whereby you pitch up your tent you just pay per person sometimes.

There are also a lot of backpackers' places in South Africa that Swazis can use when travelling to SA.
