my view

We are not brave enough in battle...We have to understand that to be champions, you have to play big matches every weekend and fight...

People are in glass houses, and you are throwing stones!

my high school accounts teacher used to shout. This could mean a lot of things but to me it means if you are already in a precarious situation, do not engage in actions that will further compromise your position. As an Arsenal FC fan, I am referring to comments made by our 'captain' William Gallas. His captaincy style has not won him any KUDOS with most Arsenal supporters and fans. I (for one) must say I was rather surprised when he was appointed captain because at the time I felt that Gilberto Silva was a worthy captain.but the manager clearly had other ideas in mind (and that is why he is the manager and I am an unhappy supporter).

For those of you that have actually read the infamous article will realise that the media has decided to go over board and talk about only some part of his actual story. Some of the points Gallas makes in his interview are valid:

We are not brave enough in battle...We have to understand that to be champions, you have to play big matches every weekend and fight," Gallas said. "We are coming up against teams who are not scared to play football against us, who are not scared to take us on at our place, and this is becoming dangerous for Arsenal."
William GallasHowever, it is interesting that he (Gallas) should talk about soldiers and warriors after his drama at St Andrews when the chips were down. Gallas goes so far as mentioning a rift between him, his teammates and a particular player:
"There are things that can't be said and can't be tolerated," he said. "When, as captain, some players come up to you and talk to you about a player ... complaining about him ... and then during the match you speak to this player and the player in question insults us," Gallas said. "There comes a time where we can no longer comprehend how this can happen.
"I am trying to defend myself a bit without giving names. Otherwise I'm taking all the blame. It's very frustrating. I'm 31, the player is six years younger than me.

Having done the maths, that player is a certain RVP. Yes he (Gallas) should talk about such issues but not get personal against his teammate in public. This does not bode well for team morale. The article is not as bad as some people of the media have suggested. However, I don't blame journalists for doing this because they are paid to write stories that will sell their papers. My worry is the timing of his (Gallas's) outburst. He should be the 'older' wiser player that leads by example. Yes you need to criticise but it is how and where you do it that can make you look like a sensible guy or someone clutching at straws.sour grapes!.

We have an important game (away at Manchester City) at the weekend minus several key players and this may have been Gallas' way of rallying his troops, but this latest outburst has not gone down well with most Arsenal supporters including Arsene Wenger who is said to have hauled Gallas back from duty after the France game on wednesday as soon as he could in order to prevent his from being interviewed further on a Fench radio...and the supposed

JUdging from reliable Arsenal news sources, a lot of Arsenal suporters are not happy about the latest installation of "when your captain behaves like a child" In truth, Gallas has not said anything far from what we have been seeing on the pitch but as I said, people in glass houses should not be throwing stones.
